I reluctantly categorize Scout as a “project horse” because in my experience this means rank, mean, nasty horses.
Scout is nothing like that.
She’s sweet, kind and safe as any horse on the ground but needs work under saddle.
I’m out of patience and time with this one.
Frequently asked questions:
Q:Would she be good for kids?
A: If the kid is punchy and can run circles around John Wayne - yes. If the kid is new to horses and has been bucked off a stick horse - no.
Q: Suitable for novices?
A: NOVICE adults just getting into horses - Scout will save you thousands $$. Take her home and you’ll never want another horse. Ever.
Q: Why are you selling her?
A: The ROI on her is snuffing out my will to live.
Q: What does she do that’s so bad?
A: I find her frustrating. Isn’t that enough? (ie won’t carry herself, jigs back to barn, weaves back and forth when heading out, etc).
Q: Why are you being so picky with her?
A: I have a barn full of Lexus / Bugatti type horses. Scout is like a Civic with manual transmission. She will get you from pint A to point B but lacks flare and creature comforts.
Q: Trail rides alone or with others?
A: Makes no difference. She does awesome … until she doesn’t.
Q: Does she trailer?
A: Yup.
I’m tired. I’m out of time. I don’t want to mess with her anymore.
The good stuff about Scout -
She loves going for long romantic walks on a lead rope. Tacks up quietly. Dog broke. Tractor broke.
Leads like a dream. Respectful of people’s space. Hobbles & stands quietly when tied. Not mean or counterfeit. Brave. No spook. Presents to mounting block. Easy keeper. Barefoot. Surefooted. Put together well. Stamina for days.
