Please read ad entirely. This is a very sweet mare, quiet disposition, nice conformation and temperament. Bella was purchased by me at 2 1/2, she was shown USDF in-hand as a 3 year old and Materielle as a 4 year old, completed a handful of training level classes. As a 5 year old she sustained a scratch on her eye which manifested into a fungal infection which has rendered her blind in the eye. At the time of the injury she was admitted to hospital where she had a surgery, went through a month plus of treatment, eventually and most unfortunately the globe ruptured. There still is a globe but it is shriveled and grey, enucleation was not needed. She does well with it, acts as though it never happened. In the summer it was advised she wears a mask when the bugs are bad, sometimes in the cold arctic wind she wears it to protect and help with irritation. The following spring I decided to breed her, crossing with warmblood stallions. Bella had back to back foals; 2014(filly) and 2015(colt) Both offspring are incredibly talented, already showing USDF levels, exhibit the dams wonderful disposition and work ethic. In the spring of 2016 she had a bout of founder, more than likely a hormonal issue being open. She was treated literally with 5 days of bute, a wide rocker shoe was put on which made her instantly sound. She managed two resets before i gave up with them as she kept losing them. Since that time she has been barefoot, turned out all summer with no muzzle and no other special diet or medications. Currently she is living outside, in the field with the herd during the day and a paddock with run in shed at night. She cross ties, bathes (hates cold water), trailers, clips. Not much has been done with her since her foals which is why she is for sale. An occasional trail ride and very light ring work. In a program she could potentially find her way back to the show ring. Her canter was never truly finished, she rides nicely forward but remains obedient. Lower level dressage, possibly western dressage or even driving would suit her. Under saddle she will sometimes get a little crook in the neck because of her blindness, more than likely with consistency with riding and developing muscle back she will become more equal. I would advise if she goes back to full work and is exposed to rocks and hard ground on trails, that front shoes be used. She doesnt have the greatest quality of hoof, thin soles and might need a little more support. Bella is a sweet mare and really needs to find a person to give her the attention and time she deserves.
