Texas Vagabond, aka Dove, is a 2016 ottb gelding with only two starts. This guy has a brain and a naturally rhythmical canter that you just can't train, he's a total dude, supremely uncomplicated and a shining example of a bay gelding. I bought him straight from the exercise track 11/19. They let me breeze him on the track, and as soon as I felt his canter, I knew why he was not going to make it as a racehorse, and I knew that he was coming home with me! He sticks at 16.1 and may grow a bit more as he just turned 4 in March 2020. Dove has experience schooling and showing away from home at local venues like Scissortail Hill, Dripping Springs Ranch Park, Coyote Springs and Meadowcreek Park. He's been exposed to age-appropriate versions of cross country questions, including banks, water and ditches, and never blinked. He has completed a GAG and a Goldilocks schooling horse trial, finishing on his dressage score both times. He has not schooled higher than Goldilocks (2'3"). This guy could finish out in any direction, I could see him doing well in hunters, dressage or eventing. He is easy to get round and over his back, accepts the bit and is the type of horse that'll win the beginner novice dressage all day long. He even has a cute toe flick! His jump is easy to ride and doesn't jump you out of the tack, and he's easy to see a distance on because his canter is a metronome. In my opinion he'd be a great Pony Club mount, but really he's the type of horse that could make a LOT of people happy. He likes to be loved on and brushed and scratched. I think his disposition suggests that he could be finished out by a younger rider in a regular training program, BUT please know that he is a young horse that's still learning, and may not be a good match for a fearful, timid or ineffective rider. He may be a packer-in-training, but he is still learning exactly what that means. No vices! He does sometimes toss his head or try to paw a little if he's being impatient, but that's age related. There's a photo of his pedigree below, notably, he's out of a Ghostzapper mare. JC papers in hand. Located in Wimberley, TX, 78676. Please note! Dove is being listed for sale at a reduced price because shortly after the DSRP jumper show in March 2020, he blew two consecutive abscesses out of the coronet band on his right hind foot. At the time, he was barefoot, and in Wimberley we are on a lot of rock. The rock and the springtime rain led to the perfect storm for abscesses. Since then, he has been shod all the way around and is recovering from his abscesses. Because of this, he had some time off during the COVID quarantine, but is now back under saddle and being legged up. He needs some more conditioning work and stifle strengthening, and his rt hind foot is ugly. The condition will come easily, and his foot will heal, especially in a less rocky environment, and he'll make someone the horse of a lifetime!
