I don't know about you, but there's few things that make me happier than walking into the barn or out to the pasture first thing in the morning and being met by a horse that is equally excited to see me as I am him. And "Patriot" does just that. He is always the first horse to greet you and gladly sticks his head in the halter, ready for whatever the day may entail. He loves getting to spend time with his owner/rider both on the ground and on his back, he's truly just a big, over-grown puppy dog.
"Patriot" has been with the same owner since he was just 4 years old and he has done practically any and every job you could possibly think of but in addition to his work resume, I think hands down, one of the most noble things on his list of skills is raising and teaching 3 kids how to take care of a horse. However in addition to that, he has also done his share in checking cattle, packing fence, roping the dummy, ponying race horses, and has seen the sights and put in the miles up and down the trails and has even logged in a few overnight camping trips.
His neck rein is good, has an easy stop/back up, and will open and close gates. He knows his leads - will trot/lope circles in the arena, and has actually been used in a few playday events! But where "Patriot" really shines is out on the trail. He is sure footed going up/down hills or embankments, and has a ground covering walk that is comfortable. This guy crosses water, logs, and steps over trail crossing with ease and lacking hesitation. He will lead the group or is just as happy to ride in the middle or bring up the rear.
"Patriot" is a big boy - standing at 16 hands, but don't let that fool you! He has a heart of gold that shines like the color of his hair coat and is really just a huge teddy bear. He will stand all day long to be bathed, groomed, saddled, etc. He loads/unloads and hauls great as well. He is up to date on all vaccinations, deworming, farrier, coggins. He gets along good with other horses, both mares and geldings and is easy to catch! "Patriot" has no buck or rear, even if you can't ride him consistently, he doesn't freshen up! This guy is ready to go cruise the trails with his new owner!
