Sadly offered for sale due to owner’s recent back surgery. Opie is a laid back individual who is a kick ride indoors and out. His fluid and rhythmic gaits make him a very comfortable ride and an exciting dressage or hunter prospect. He is green but honest over fences and has schooled 2’9 at home with the potential for more. He has been trail ridden alone and in groups. He is more confident following rather than leading over cross country fences and would make an excellent fox hunter prospect. His first time out hunting he was described as a “superstar”. He has no issues with dogs. He is fancy enough to be competitive in the show ring and quiet enough to be a family horse. He could be brought along by an amateur in a program. He has given lead line rides to small children as well as non-horsey husbands. Opie is registered as a competitor in the 2020 class of the 2021 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover. A new trainer can take him if they apply before the January deadline. Opie is a joy to have in the barn and loves to be groomed and snuggled. He stands straight tied or cross tied for as long as you need. He is easy to load and travel with, and is a perfect gentleman for vet/ farrier. He stands politely when being bathed, clipped, or braided. He currently lives outside but is not stressed when stalled. He prefers to be turned out with other geldings. He is currently shod all around due to his level of work but was barefoot last winter. His feet have been meticulously cared for and he defies the “Thoroughbred feet” stereotype. He had 23 starts in his racing career. Current owner has never had him X-rayed but he has been sound since coming off the track and is clean legged. More videos and pics can be seen on Instagram @ottb_rn |
