Dahlia is a 4 year old this year. She was bred by Fresno State University and was started by the students as a 2 year old. I have had her for one year. She has been ridden full time since I bought her last February. She is sound~ I have clean x-rays from February 2020. She is for sale because she is too quiet to be a reined cow horse. She has some stop but it is more suited to the ranch horse classes. She has a super smooth jog and trot, and a nice smooth, cadenced lope. She wants to keep her head low. She picks up leads, changes leads, and has basic spins. She has won a ranch horse championship at a local show, and always either wins or places in the top 3 in the ranch classes she has been in. She is quiet on cows, but will watch her cow and go with her cow. She has no buck, no rear. She is easy to haul and is confident, not spooky. I recommend her to an intermediate rider, or an advanced beginner (meaning can lope circles by themselves without help), just because she is young and athletic and is not finished. She has just been transitioned to a curb bit. She is calm, but not a dead head. She knows her job, but I don't see her filling in for a beginner without a trainer involved. I think she would be great as a sorting horse as well as a ranch horse. ********UPDATE********* I am getting questions that I want to address here to clear up any confusion: I am looking for a home that will use her in a job. She has a great foundation so far. So far I am getting people asking if she is a babysitter. Yes, she takes care of her rider. YES, she spooks because she is a horse and because SHE JUST TURNED 4 AND IS NOT FINISHED. She only spooks IN PLACE. NEVER RUNS OFF and it is only if she is not mentally warmed up, like in the first 5 minutes of working. Other than that she knows how to work and focus. This bold temperament will only get even better with age, but as of right now SHE IS 4, and still has training and life experience to go. If you are tempted to ask me if she spooks, you are clearly NOT the right home for a young horse. If you have experience bringing a young horse along in a job, you will be impressed with how much she has going for her so far. I have been a trainer with client horses for the last 20 years. You have not heard of me unless you show in the same shows I go to. You will not hear about me because I do not advertise. I only take word of mouth clients with references- proof that they are respectful in business relationships. Dahlia will continue to work on reining and cow work and to show in ranch horse classes until she is sold.
