We have owned this special gelding for 4 years. Waspy is the ultimate ranch horse. He has proven himself to us in every way possible...being extremely consistent, reliable and safe, with any level of rider we’ve had on him. He’s been the go-to horse when we have beginner family and friends come visit us on the ranch. Anytime someone wants to trail ride for fun, help us work cows out on the ranch, or learn how to rope, Waspy has always been the horse we put those people on. He will step up in a gentle way when asked by a beginner rider. He’s not barn, herd or buddy sour. He rides off effortlessly by himself and will split away from the group with no issues. He can also be left at the back of the herd while moving cows if someone else needs to trot ahead. He’s not bothered at all to be left by himself in the back. He crosses water, bridges and is extremely traffic safe. He’s very easy to catch in a large pasture, stands tied quietly by himself, hauls quietly by himself, and loads/unloads easily. His program with us the last 4 winters has always stayed the same. We turn him out to pasture every November through April. He has never been fresh, and does not need lunged or warmed up at all before his 1st ride back in the spring. Waspy has never had any lameness issues, no skin allergies, and no issues/no cases of colic or tying up. He’s also always been barefoot with us as well. Waspy lives out in a herd in pasture 24/7. We are a geldings only operation. We know this gelding very well...Waspy does have a few quirks, and we are happy to disclose those publicly. —He cannot be pastured with mares, or tied next to mares. He was cut late. We still take him to town to ropings and neighboring ranches for brandings that have mares. He looks at/definitely notices them, and will sometimes talk to them if they’re in heat, but he has never given us any issues when we’re riding him. Again, we are a geldings only operation.... so he’s fine in that setting. —He is the Alpha in our herd as well... & definitely likes to be loaded last on the trailer if you haul him with others. You are highly encouraged, and more than welcome to come here and try him!
