Drifter is a 1/4 draft Morgan/Belgian Gelding. Drifter has been used for 8 years as a lead riding horse and as a pack horse in the rugged Absaroka Mountains on the east edge of Yellowstone. Drifter will lead over absolutely ANY obstacle. Heavy fallen timber, creeks and rivers even when frozen with ice breaking under foot, bogs, puddles, log and wood deck bridges, rugged terrain with no trail, and thick brush. He will pack hard and soft panniers, wild game, and shed elk antlers rattling. Leads and loads very easy, will stop and stand with a “whoa” command. Very correct and thick feet. Drifter isn’t afraid of Deer, Elk, Moose, Wild Bison or Grizzlies, he has been close to many of each and used to chase grizzlies out of camp. Extremely friendly, will come to a whistle out of a big pasture and is easily caught. Is dog friendly, even allowing a dog to be picked up from the saddle and onto his back. Average to slightly above pace. Broke to ride with a crouper and isn’t bothered by a rope under his tail. Rides with a loose rein. He has always had a pack animal lead behind him. Very friendly to other horses in any situation, tends to be lower in social structure. Passed a full vet check by Dr. Ted Vlahos in May, including X-Rays. His only issues are being fidgety before use when tied up and not being handled, and fidgets when being shod, nothing mean or anything. Stands well at the trailer or in the mountains after little use. Doesn’t pull back. Needs less feed than many of my Draft Crosses. If you are looking for a trail horse that isn’t afraid of anything and will cross everything you can think of, take a look at Drifter. Located in Northwest Wyoming. 307-899-4670
