Sampson is a fantastic draft cross available to a great home. Originally purchased as a project, I have only had the time to dedicate to a few trail rides. He is a forward moving yet calm and steady minded horse. Sam is a half Belgian Draft, half Quarter Horse with a big, muscular rear, lovely head and good balance. He is currently sound, barefoot, and in good weight. Sam ties beautifully, hauls well, gets along with all horses, and is ready to get a tune up and hit the trails. His background is that of an Amish horse and I purchased him at a sale lot. He is easy to catch, good with his feet, accustomed to blankets, fly masks, fly spray, etc. No vices (no cribbing, weaving, kicking, pulling, etc.), and is very uncomplicated and straight forward horse. He does not have any sophisticated training beyond a bit of natural horsemanship on the ground (desensitized to tarps, big green Parelli ball, trot poles), a bit of bending and flexing in a snaffle, and is simply a go and whoa ride (I have ridden in English tack only). I intended to work with him more but time got the best of me so he has been a paddock pet for a year. I have not clipped him and assume he is has never been introduced to clippers. Due to a relocation, I am offering Sam for a quick and uncomplicated sale at an exceptional price for draft crosses. He would be a great project for a trainer as draft crosses are quite popular. However, he is simple enough that an amateur rider could easily put miles and exposure on him, or a basic trail horse tune up and have a super steady riding partner this spring/summer. He is a robust horse and while very calm, he can be a bit pushy is allowed to get away with it so I would not recommend small kids unless they are assertive and/or have the guidance of an adult. Would be an excellent husband horse due to his robust build but not a dead head (will walk briskly on the trail). Loves treats. Would make a nice trail mount, ranch horse, etc. with a minimal effort. Good brain. Special consideration given to those who practice natural horsemanship, barefoot care, etc. Goes in an extra wide tree. He was last floated/teeth balancing spring 2021 and will be updated (vaccines) with Coggins prior to sale. Dewormed/trimmed regularly. This is a great horse and I know his worth so please do not be an offensive low baller. If he does not sell he will simply move cross country with me. Currently in his winter woolies and in need of a tune up which is reflected in price. Vet check at buyers expense. Buyer to arrange pickup within a reasonable time frame.
