Tonto is a 10-12 year old black and white 44inch pony gelding. Before coming to live with us Tonto was a ring pony ride pony for a traveling petting zoo. He was sold from the pony rides due to blindness in his left eye, the eye itself has the blue haze.
Tonto has since taught my kids how to ride, groom, mount, and care for a horse. He stands great for grooming, farrier, mounting and dismounting. My kids climb all over him. He's been ridden double, tripled by Littles, bareback or with a saddle. From being a ring pony, he's been exposed to ahout everything, nothing spooks him. No kick or bite. The kids can pick out his hooves.
With that being said, under saddle he has been known to throw a few pony bucks. Typical pony business. You can see it coming when the kids are pushing for ring work.
He rides in a snaffle, does NOT neck rein.
On the trails, you couldn't ask for a better pony. He ponies or rides on his own. He will lead or follow. He has a FAST walk. He will out walk the full size horses. He will go up down over or through anything you put in front of him. He will gently step across logs half his size. Mud and water don't phase him.
He really is am amazing pony! But, also... has the pony business. He can be pushy/pully and has thrown some bucks. My little girl has never lost her seat from it, she says "we jumped! Do it again"
If you've got a tough kid, this is the pony for you! My kids are ready for something bigger and to hit the show ring. Tonto deserves another kid to love and spoil him!
