Jewel is a senior mare with a lot of energy and spirit. We took her in 2 years ago when she needed a home and was given to us with hopes of retraining her and her ending up a good fit for us… but unfortunately it just has not worked out. She needs an experienced handler or rider. She would do best in home where she can either retire and just be groomed and loved on and not asked to work OR with someone who can ride and work her every single day consistently who is prepared for unpredictability. If she is not ridden or worked every day she is very challenging and unpredictable to work with. She’s always sweet just to pet or groom. She was used in teen lessons and riding camp including night time trail rides and fox hunting the past 2 years as part of the training board situation we had her in. She did well in this very structured environment with consistent work, but still had her days. She is well trained and when she’s good, she’s so good, making her pretty confusing. However, we now have her at our backyard barn with lots of small children around. She is not safe to be in this new environment being as unpredictable as she is and needs a home where she can retire, or be someone’s focus/project. I am telling it like it is because I do not want to see anyone get hurt. She can be your dream mount one day and turn in to kick you or buck or rear when you’re just leading her in hand the next. She’s never once act up on the crossties, in trailer, for farrier or vet. It’s really just seeming to be when she’s asked to work in any way which is why she may just make a good companion horse. She gets along with everyone in the pasture mares and geldings alike. We just want to find her a good home with a person who can understand her and figure out what it is that she needs. I have many young kids and too much else going on and just can’t be that for her.
