Chulo is the horse that I cannot seem to retire. I have tried so many times over the last few years to let him be a pasture pet and he just isn't having it. Chulo loves to compete, he loves trail rides, and he loves having a job; he gets grumpy if I don't have him in some sort of routine. Although he can be spirited, he could do well as a kids horse (I have taught little kids on him before and he's a saint), so long as he is in a home where there is an experienced adult. He is not a beginner's horse. The good: He's sound and needs very little maintenance (and by little, I mean he needs cookies and a job) Barefoot (does okay in front shoes but does not currently have them) Gets fat off air/easy keeper Loves everyone and does not have a mean bone in his body Will ride out on his own or in a group Not spooky (but not bomb-proof, either) Not reactive Loves trail rides, can go English or Western, has competed successfully through 2nd level dressage, has schooled jumping and XC, and has competed in working equitation Same horse at the show, on the trail, and at home Has no problems with cars, bikes, motorcycles, trampolines, flags, farm machinery, dogs, etc. Great for the farrier and the vet Hauls & bathes like a champ Does not destroy fencing, blankets, or stalls No cribbing/wind sucking Does fine on grass; no foundering issues Can live happily in a stall w/run or on 24/7 pasture The bad: Can be pushy on the ground Will not stand still Colicked twice last summer, but no issues since then Does not like other horses in his space/does better in a pasture by himself Dominant horse in a herd I'm looking for someone who wants to do a care lease, as I just don't have the time to ride and be with him as much as I wish I could be. He would do well somewhere where he is regularly ridden/somewhere where he is in a lesson or training program.
