Danny is a very handsome 11yo bay BLM mustang that came to us five years ago. He’s an endearing goofball and we do love him, however, he just isn’t *quite* fitting into our program. We run summer camps for kids and teens on a 1,200+ acre land trust in south-central Washington. Those of us who work here all wear a number of different hats, which leaves us with just not enough time to spend with him regularly (plus we have no covered arena situation, and so not any easy way to keep him in regular work in the snowiest, iciest and muddiest of winter time). I *do* believe he could still do great in a lesson program—it’s not that he doesn’t have the capacity, it’s that he would do much better with even a couple days a week of consistency for more of the year than we can provide. He’s responsive on the ground and knows some natural horsemanship groundwork. He’ll w/t/c and back quietly under saddle in the arena (he also has days where he’s more sticky under saddle if he doesn’t have another horse friend around, but that is already improving with the work we’ve been doing to get him ready to find a more ideal home), and he’ll open gates under saddle. On the trail, he prefers to follow but will lead comfortably with a rider that he can have confidence in. He’s gotten fussy this year riding down hills and a little with the trimmer (but is generally good to have his feet done), and I suspect a visit from a chiropractor or bodyworker wouldn’t be amiss. I wouldn’t say he’s a beginner horse at the moment, but he has shown us he has the temperament for it with more consistency (and has carried beginners with us with 1:1 coaching, even this summer). He’s got nice, smooth gaits and would also be a super fun horse to do some dressage work with. He’s got good mustang feet and would continue to excel with a qualified barefoot trimmer. He lives out with other geldings at the moment; has lived with mares successfully, as well, and is generally unproblematic with other horses. Based on his size, I'd say a good weight limit for him would be 180-200 including tack. Please message with any questions as I’m sure there are details I’m forgetting—finding a good fit is the most important thing to me when I have to sell a horse, and so I’m happy to answer all questions. Can share videos and can take more photos if there’s anything particular you’d like to see.
