Merlin is a 14 year old, 13 hand, bay, Welsh pony, gelding. Merlin is a very handsome boy with a massive flowing mane! Although he is a pony, he is stout and can easily handle an adult rider; riders have been as tall as 5’7” and up to 180 pounds without looking out of place on him. Merlin is fully trained in walk, trot, canter and competes in 2’6”- 2’9” jump courses. This is the horse that will provide a safe mount for you or your child. At walk and trot, a brand new beginner rider can ride him well. At the canter, he is more difficult to keep straight if the rider does not use rein and leg properly to steer. He loves jumping. He will do the small stuff slow and rhythmic but as the jumps go to 2’6” and up, he likes his speed. He is very competitive in the jumper ring and the audience loves to watch him! At walk or trot, Merlin is ridden by our beginner lesson students, in the educational program and in therapy. He is ridden at canter and jump with intermediate students. He has carried riders across all ages ages. Merlin is completely healthy and sound with no medical concerns. Merlin gets along with his pasture mates with no aggressive tendencies. He does not have any destructive pasture or stall behaviors. The negatives: 1. If you don’t latch his stall, he will become Merlin the magician and get out : ) 2. At the canter, he is more difficult to keep straight if the rider does not use rein and leg cues properly to steer. He is perfect for vet and farrier, leads with multiple horses nicely for barn staff, does not get pushy at the gate, is not herd bound, stands perfectly while grooming and walks right on the trailer.
