Bonnie The Barfly, Maple, came to us as a rescue in September of 2022. She has gained over 300 lbs and is currently up to date on all cares. I was able to track down her previous owners and her registration papers. She IS currently registered to me and everything is in order. She is a super easy mare to have around. She gets along with almost anyone I've turned her out with. She is middle of the herd. She is currently turned out with 8 other mares. She is great for the farrier, vet, chiropractor and to load/haul/unload. She has great ground manners and will stand tied all day but may paw if left where she can't see anyone. When she came her back legs were very beat up. Everything has healed but she does have scars and some scar tissue on both hind legs. We have not had any soundness issues at all. I do have current X-rays and the vet says the scars are purely cosmetic! The scars should not affect her future career choices in any way. Maple is broke to ride. I have been using her for lessons this spring and summer. She also trail rides but gets a little anxious at times so I would not put a beginner on her on the trails. I think with a consistent rider and more experience out on the trails she could over come this. She has a little bit of a motor but isn't super speedy. Maple has a super smooth canter and knows her leads but you have to ask her for the correct lead. She doesn't seem to have a need for speed. I have used Maple for lessons for walk-trot-canter students and above. She like to cut to the middle so her rider needs to actually ride and can't just be a passenger. She would be suitable in the arena for an advanced beginner. There has been absolutely no nastiness with Maple from day 1. We waited about 3 1/2 months before she had gained enough to weight ride her and even that very first ride there was no buck, no rear and no bolt. She has never tried to bite or kick any people (horses in the pasture might get a kick if they are really annoying her). I have been dragging my feet about listing Maple because I really like her personality. However I can't take in anymore rescues until I start finding homes for a few of those that I have been hanging on to. Maple has never had any foals but I think she would make some amazing barrel babies. I originally said no competition homes because of the scars but with the X-rays I really think she could go any direction.
