Spice is a super sweet mare that I bought at auction March in hopes of her making it as a lesson horse. I bought her because I was told she was a kids open show pony and she had been shown in all events. When I got her home you could tell she was body sore everywhere. Her front left heel was sheared. She was very defensive any time you would get near her and was almost impossible to catch. She tripped a lot when trotting even without anyone on her back. After a LOT of massage and 3 different chiropractic adjustments she is doing MUCH better. From her snarky painful start here she has turned into a total sweetheart. She is friendly and usually very easy to catch. She occasionally walks away but never goes far and doesn't play that game for more than a minute or two. She has great ground manners. She is good for the vet, chiropractor and farrier. She will stand in the cross ties or straight tied all day. She is easy for the my students to groom and tack up. Students have ridden her English and western. She is very willing in the arena and will walk, trot and canter without any fuss. She doesn't have a lot of balance at the canter and tends to get faster and faster unless her rider is able to help her. She has a super cute ground covering trot for her size and she's learning to balance her weight on her hind end to be able to slow her trot down a bit. Spice has been great out on the trails for us. She will ride anywhere in the group but if they are slowpokes then she prefers to be towards the front. She has gotten much better about leading here but in a new place might not want to be the leader right away. She is used to the dogs racing around and they don't seem to bother her. Spice does have a blind spot in her left eye. While it doesn't seem to bother her most of the time she did startle once when a kiddo moved to fast on that side. Not sure if it was related to the blind spot or the kid being crazy. She did not try to kick or anything naughty when she was caught off guard, just kind of scooted away. I am listing Spice for sale because I think she would come out of her shell more with one consistent person. I don’t have time for her every day and she seems to get a bit grouchier at switching people all the time. I think with one person she would really be suited to any discipline. She was fabulous to have around for lessons all summer but I don't think she wants to make a long term career out of switching kids every day. Spice is welcome to stay until I find her the right home for her. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
