Extended version Toby is a very seasoned ranch gelding. He is grade, we bought him as a 4 year old from a reputable man who was too old to ride colts anymore. He is cowbred, unfortunately we don’t know more than that. Toby has been used on our Colorado ranch ever since. He has branded calves every year, doctored cattle, great to sort on as he is cowy! He’s been used extensively to move cattle. We take excellent care of our ranch horses and although they do work hard, we don’t overwork or abuse them. We have several horses so everyone gets plenty of time off. Toby is our go to horse for beginner riders visiting and wanting to ride on the ranch. He’s also use to packing kids. He doesn’t spook and is a babysitter. But Toby isn’t a dead head, he walks out and is responsive. A real fun one to ride! Even for me as an experienced rider. He’s a real gentleman. He never saddles up fresh no matter how much time between rides. He’s been rode at the rodeo to carry a flag but hasn’t spent a lot of time in the arena. However it would be an easy transition for him. He will lope a decent circle and is nice to ride in the arena. Some soundness issues! Please read below, I’m being 100% honest and want the buyer to know exactly what they are getting. He is very sound currently and has a good prognosis from the vet. We don’t think he will be good for long hard days on the ranch due to this, but he would definitely make an exceptional family/kid/trail horse. Or for someone who has a small ranch but doesn’t need to ride all day. I’m happy to discuss this further on the phone. We had him x-rayed in June. The vet injected his coffin joints which helped considerably. I recently had him X-rayed again and had his bursas injected mostly as a maintenance step. He also got an osfos injection. (I can email you all the vet notes/X-rays as well as the vets phone #) Maintenance recommended (by vet)- injections every 6-12 months depending (depending on what the vet recommends). Keeping him shod. Equioxx daily.
