Let me introduce you to one of the absolute BEST ponies you could ever own, and I’m picky on ponies so I don’t say that lightly. Darlin' The Pony is a 5yr old, 39" tall, silver bay mare. This little girl is as gentle as a lamb and so much fun to have around. Darlin’ is the perfect first pony and will save you hundreds on a babysitter. How? She’s a saint on the ground. Turn your kid loose for hours to love, brush, and lead her around without having to worry about them, and if they want to saddle up and ride, even better! Darlin’ has mainly been used for lead-line, however, she does ride alone either in a halter or a snaffle. We’ve used her for all of the playday patterns, to go on family trail rides, to go on walks with the dogs down the road, and more. She is not spooky and will handle all obstacles with ease; bridges, tarps, logs, flags, opening mailboxes; you name it, she can do it and do it SAFELY. We were told she also had experience pulling a cart, but we don’t own one to test that. However, she does ground drive as one would expect a cart pony to and I’d be willing to bet you could hook her up and go with zero issues. In new places, she is extremely level-headed and does not get “looky” or “watchy”. Hollering kids, other horses running around, traffic from vehicles, bicycles whizzing past, barking dogs… none of it bothers Miss Darlin’. If your kid falls off, Darlin' stays calm and does not shy away or cause a bigger issue. And if you haven't seen the picture on Facebook, your kiddo's saddle can, unfortunately, end up halfway down her neck and she will remain unbothered. Darlin’ does not have any of the annoying pony habits that many do. She stands tied without pawing, is easy to catch, has never even hinted towards wanting to be buddy or barn sour, picks up all four feet willingly, and doesn’t try to beat up on the bigger horses. Darlin’ also does not have that typical “mare attitude”. She’s gotten along with all of our gelding and three mares amicably. Our 2.5yr old son handles everything on the ground with her; catching, leading, grooming, bathing, feeding, and even loading/unloading from the trailer. Darlin’ is 100% sound with no previous history of lameness or health issues. Whether you’re needing a first pony to start kid lead-lining, a companion pony to take on the road with your other horse, a gentle pony to give your kid a confidence boost, or looking for a prospect to put into a therapy program, she will fit the bill. We absolutely adore Darlin’ and know you will too.
