A brutally honest description! I've had this mare with me since Sept. Owner is not sure if they are a good fit. Selling as GREEN! She is not finished in body mechanics or in the bridle. Approximately 15 yrs old. Working on getting her tattoo read. Doesn't seem like she's been on the track. Doesn't feel the "need" to run, especially in large groups of other horses. She is BIG! She has high withers and they reach just a tad over the 17h line barefoot. Tahoe has a big stride in every gate except the walk. She has the typical big horse saunter at the walk! Will shorten her stride and collect for short stints. Is still needing to build muscle. First month with me was ALL ground work, a complete "re-start" if you will. Desensitized at a whole new level for her here! She didn't like ropes, hoses, flags, loud music or kids popping around. I have 2 young boys, 1 of which forgets others have personal spaces. She has learned that little people are treat dispensers and belly scratchers, so we like them! Even if they drag around scary stuff she doesn't like, she will suck it up for a treat! She's a "snorter". It's part of her personality and that's just how she processes the world around her. If that will bother you, STOP READING NOW! Second month Tahoe we started our riding journey! If you're still reading this, know... she has NEVER offered to buck, bite, bolt, or rear. Not once! First trail ride was to the beach! She was a nervous Nelly but was so curious about the journey she soon got over it and enjoyed the ride! She took the lead a quarter of the way in and never looked back! She's bold as long as her rider says the path is clear up ahead! Because of this, she is NOT for the kiddos or any aged rider that lacks confidence or skill in any form! She's been introduced to cows and has been to TWO sortings. She's been to ONE gymkhana. Speed was not asked of her. That event was treated strictly as a training experience. The loud speaker, the small crowd, the kids running around, tying to the trailer and waiting patiently. Standing with other horses quietly, in the arena with warmup horses and by herself for each course. I would absolutely NOT consider her a speed event prospect in any way. Is she fast? Yes, is she controlled? No. She will need quite a bit more training in body control and mechanics. She likes puzzles! Obstacles, new experiences, she really has a knack for working cows. To my knowledge, she has never worked a cow in any way shape or form before me. She really likes sorting! Her advantage in sorting... her size!! She makes it really hard for the dirty cows to sneak through! Don't let her size fool you though! She can be a fast mover when asked! She really likes a long trail ride! She is very "watchy" but not a big spooker. Again, I consider this mare "green" and needs to still be ridden as such. Call/text Amanda 916-835-3575
