Crouton "Cru" will be 8 this summer and is ready for a job. I have owned him his entire life. He has a bone cyst (OCD) in his left lower hock joint which we have known about since he was 3. He's had lameness issues in the past from the condition but is currently sound with treatment. He has basic training and is patterned on barrels but I would still describe him as "green". He lunges, ties, trailers, w/t/l, bends, counter-bends, collects, gives to bridal/headset. He can be a little bratty when you are leading him. I recently learned he will take advantage of a beginner handler and act up, but I have not had any major behavior problems with him myself. He will bolt on the lunge line when hyper and sometimes crow hop under saddle, which I see it as typical young horse behavior. I bred him to run barrels but due to his condition he has not been ran very much. He's had frequent vet care and been to 2 different vets to confirm his condition, I can send records per request. the vet said he could do barrels with proper treatment and as long as he stays sound, but I also think he could excel as a performance or trail horse. He has been around cows a few times and was spooky at first but worked through it fine. I don't think he would do drill very well because he can be reactive to horses coming at him quickly, but an advanced rider could certainly try. He has been entered in some schooling shows at OHC as a younger horse and preformed well. I have also done some ranch trail and show trail obstacles with him (such as a bridge/backing through logs) and he seems pretty willing to learn that type of stuff. He currently has front shoes and has had all 4 in the past but he doesn't love the back ones being nailed on so we used DormGel and that worked fine. Stands for a trim okay and he has good strong feet. He is currently boarded and being exercised regularly so he's ready to go in whichever direction you choose. He needs someone who can put 5-7 days a week into working him and he will excel. Text or call me with questions 541-510-5104, Ashley.
