It is with a heavy heart I’m listing my two fjord mares for sale. I had high hopes to buy my own property and relocated in an effort to make this happen but it has not worked in my favor. I cannot afford the cost of a new mortgage and their boarding and upkeep elsewhere. This is due to no fault of their own. The older mare (Edi) is roughly 18 years old and the younger mare (Ellie) is roughly 16. This is a mother and daughter who were used to pull carts and farm equipment. I have not asked this of them since I owned them so they would need a refresher in this area. They did not come with papers and are not registered. Due to this, their ages are estimated considering the information their original owners provided. The older mare can be head strong but safe. She is the one I would put all of the beginners on but can be lazy. Hence why she’s safe. She goes off leg/rein. She’s not a horse that will be running any races anytime soon but she provides a nice leisure ride. She is very sweet and loves to be groomed but also wants to lead mare in any herd. Since I’ve owned her, she was only in the pasture with the younger mare and geldings and this has worked well. The younger mare also goes off leg/rein but would need continued training to keep growing her confidence. She did have professional training last year and her trainer is willing to answer any questions if needed. Ellie lacks confidence and can be buddy sour to the older mare due to never being separated. However, if you’re a confident/experienced rider and create a bond with her, this can be overcome. She has a strong stranger danger sense so I would not consider her kid safe or safe for any therapy programs unless it included only ground work. I can provide videos of my husband riding her who is as green as they come to show once she grows confidence this can be overcome. My niece and nephew have also rode her while I lead on the ground. Both are quiet and easy keepers who only need grass hay. They have been on a 12 week rotation for the ferrier since we relocated and this has worked well. Serious inquiries only as this is extremely difficult for me already. Due to the younger mares lack of confidence and because of my heavy heart, they must go together. $7000 for the pair which includes their tack.
