Read this whole ad before messaging. Are you Howdy's best home? Tell us why please when answering this ad. We were asked to tune up Howdy and find him a new home. He is a very smart and happy gelding. Likes to be caught with a horse cookie in hand. He is not a kid’s pony and not broke as far as we can tell. He needs an experienced horse person. Howdy is smart and loves adults, not kids. He has motion and moves off of both ends so could be trained to drive. Very nice mover and close to trotting center barefoot front and back. So far he has been a pretty pasture pet as far as we know. Cannot be stabled with other equines or livestock as he will pester them. He loads and hauls although hates hauling alone. Has been shown halter in the past. Stands for farrier at hitching post and can trim all four feet. Likes brushing and attention once caught. This very smart gelding can be hard to catch in large pen but when he sees two people herding him to a corner he stops for a cookie. He does not try to go through or over fencing when cornered. We are working on him with the catching and he is getting better. He is your typical bratty pony and of course he makes us laugh. Not for beginners. Howdy came to us when his pasture mate needed to be put down and his owner did not want him alone on their property plus a death in the family. We are finding out that Howdy knows quite a bit. We set up a trail course and asked one of the volunteers, pictured, to walk him through for photos and he went through it all like an old pro. We suspect he has had some show training in his background. We were told he is age 12 to 14 but we do not have his papers. His teeth agree with that age assessment. He will go to a home with an adoption contract stating folks will keep him the rest of his life or returned to us. He will not be resold at a later time. Preference given to a home with horse buds across a fence line and folks knowledgeable about ponies and their needs. His price will increase with more training. Howdy is in no danger here. He can stay but trying to find a home where he will have more time with his people. He always comes mooching cookies or grass from visitors so he can be very charming when bribes are involved. |
