Cricket is a super sweet grade POA mare. We got her at auction in 2024 as a winter project and liked her so much we decided to keep her for the summer for lessons. She is easy to load/haul/unload. She will stand tied or in cross ties all day but may paw a little if she's been there a while and she thinks it could get your attention. She is SUPER easy to catch (even when you are trying to catch someone else). She is great for the vet and farrier; we have always had her barefoot. Cricket has been ridden a ton on our trails and we have hauled her to a local state park as well. She is quiet and inquisitive and not spooky. When something startles her she may turn to face it but does not take off or panic. Honestly last winter we didn't bother much with a saddle and rode her bareback most of the time. She likes obstacles once she has a chance to think about them for a second. She will also cross water and bridges easily (even had to lead a few experienced horses over one bridge at Volga). Cricket is coming along in the arena. She will walk. trot, canter nicely. She was leased for part of the summer by a 10 yr old but she has decided she wants to jump and needs something a little more finished to learn on. Cricket loves to be with you and is happy to work. We wanted to make her a dressage or event pony but unfortunately with my health she was really just a student project this summer. She does jump but needs some confidence (and a little leg) from her rider otherwise she may stop after the jump. I think she would make a stellar little games pony or she is already on her way to being the perfect trail mount. Cricket is a super easy mare to have around. She is middle of the pecking order. Likes to make faces at those that challenge her but doesn't really do much about it if they ignore her. She has not be marish or nasty when in heat. Currently on free choice grass/alfalfa hay with a net and no grain. I would love to find Cricket a home with a youth or small adult looking for a fun pony to finish. She's not mean at all but has had a few 'baby brain' moments that needed slight corrections. With her being young I would not sell her as a complete beginner horse at this time. I definitely think that with time and experience she will be an amazing kids mount. I list her as kid friendly in the skills section as we've had kids of all ages on her with instruction. She has she has never given me a reason not to trust her. Ideally she would benefit from an intermediate rider or better so she can continue learning but would do well with an advanced beginner under instruction as well. Would be the perfect step up horse but probably not the perfect first horse. Price is negotiable for the right situation. |
