Gus is a 5 year old, 14.2 hand John mule. He is a quiet, safe, gentle, and friendly mule. He’s been trail ridden throughout his life and that is where he shines. He is a mountain goat type, if you point his nose, he will go. He is not a spooky type of mule that is looking for boogers to jump at. He rides anywhere in the group. His confidence is growing as the lead mule and he does well in that spot, but he also follows along really well too. Most of his riding has been by a weekend warrior type person that likes to relax on the weekends by riding and drinking beer, so following has been his forte. But with that being said, everyday he is getting better about leading and being more confident out alone. Gus crosses bridges, steps over logs, crosses rivers, slides down steeper banks, and climbs back up the other side. He rides down the trail or road nicely in a loose rein. He has a phenomenal lope that is very comfortable. Gus rides softly. He occasionally has a young mule moment about turning or going somewhere “off the path” but just a little encouragement and he does what he is supposed to do. Every week those little things happen less and less as he continues to get better with each ride. Gus stands to saddle and mount. We’ve thrown a rope off of him. He has ridden through the cows. He trailers well and gets along with others in the group setting turned out. He also has nice stall manners. He is a solid young mule ready for the spring and summer rides!
