Rusty has been a long-time favorite in our guided trail program — a kind, dependable partner with a big heart and a steady mind. He’s carried countless riders safely through the woods and has always been a guide favorite for his willing attitude and gentle nature.

Due to a few age-related health changes, Rusty is now ready to transition into a lighter lifestyle and find a home where he can continue to be loved and appreciated.

What you should know about Rusty:
🐴 He is Lyme positive, but responds well to Doxy during flare-ups.
🐴 He has weaker hooves and did well in glue-on shoes during his working days. He’s also on hoof-strengthening supplements. A less rocky environment with good footing or use of trail boots may be enough to keep him comfortable.
🐴 He has started to lose some eyesight, which causes him to be cautious or nervous around shadows or uneven footing. He’s never been dangerous under saddle, just more tentative — and he gains confidence with a calm, understanding, and more experienced rider.

Rusty isn’t ready to be put out to pasture just yet. With the right person—someone patient, kind, and experienced—he still has something to give. Whether that’s as a light riding horse, a quiet companion, or a pasture buddy with purpose, Rusty deserves a safe, respectful retirement.
