15-year-old grade palomino mare for sale. “Biscuit” would make someone who likes to cover ground a nice trail horse. I have used her on trail rides, pack trips, and just got back from a week in the Frank Church wilderness. She has stood on the highline, been grazed out in hobbles, and covered 20-25 miles a day no problem. Here are the pros: - Big walk - Will lead or follow\ - Rides out alone - Crosses bridges, water, rocks - Great ground manners- not in your space or on your heels when leading - Not spooky- we have passed backpackers, trail crews, bicycles, motorcycles, and been at remote airstrips when planes landed and took off. Unconcerned. - Loads and unloads with no issues, no drama in the trailer - Great for farrier - Stands tied, no pull back. Highlines, hobbles. - Little to no “mare-ish” behavior- no drama, gets along with other stock, lower in herd order. Can’t tell when she’s in heat- no squeal, kick, etc. - Packs or rides - Has had several colts; ride her or breed her for color in babies Cons: - Walks too fast to lead a pack string. I need a horse that will take it slower and not drag pack stock. - She doesn’t love a rope tight on her hindquarters, which happens from time to time leading a string or with another pack animal tied on behind. For someone riding out and not leading a string, there is absolutely no issue with other animals around her or close to her. I have to pack as part of my job and don’t have time to work through this, though I think she could. She hasn’t excelled leading a pack string but for someone looking to ride out with friends on day rides or a horse for multi-day trips, with Biscuit would be perfect.
