Elsa
17-year-old Registered Purebred Percheron Mare

Elsa is a stocky, 17-hand Percheron mare with both pulling and show bloodlines, built like a brick house and capable of comfortably carrying any size rider. She is truly the definition of a gentle giant.
Despite her enormous size, Elsa has excellent ground manners and is exceptionally easy to handle. She is kind, respectful, and very well behaved to lead and be around. She picks up her feet politely and can be trimmed in stocks or without. We occasionally give her Gel Dorm to ensure she stands perfectly still for trims due to her size and weight, but she has also been trimmed without stocks or sedation with no issues, she is just big and heavy.
In the pasture, Elsa is middle of the pecking order, never a bully, and is generally respected by other horses simply because of her size. She is easy to catch, halter, groom, and tack up. She ties all day, trailers like a pro, and will load into anything.
Under saddle, Elsa is beginner-safe. In the arena she walks and trots quietly, and on the trail she will walk, trot, and canter. She has a smooth, rocking-chair canter that is incredibly comfortable. She has never spooked under saddle, if something makes her unsure, she simply pauses, thinks, and then calmly proceeds. She confidently walks through water and over obstacles without hesitation.
Elsa was primarily a driving horse before we got her and excels there as well. She drives single or double and is solid and dependable in harness.
She is currently learning to neck rein, pivot, and side pass and is progressing beautifully. She will continue training and having “fancy new buttons” installed while she is with us.
Elsa has been a successful broodmare, producing six registered purebred Percheron foals, and would also make an excellent candidate for quality crossbred foals if desired.
Temperament-wise, you truly will not find a nicer draft horse. Elsa is kind, loving, willing, and eager to please. She would be a perfect match for a husband horse, amateur rider, or anyone wanting a safe, laid-back, trustworthy draft mare.
