'Cruzy' came off the track sound in 2023. She has only had 2 owners other than the person that pulled her straight from the track. I bought Cruzy in the fall of 2024 as a project for myself. Unfortunately I have had lots of health issues- I am finally back on a horse but think draft horse energy not OTTB energy as I can barely trot. I kept hanging on to Cruzy because I think she has tons of potential and is super easy to have around. To Cruzy's credit she is still being ridden on a semi-regular basis and handling everything well. Unfortunately she has been bounced around between students. Switching between people constantly seems to annoy her a bit and I would love for her to have her own person. This is the only reason she is for sale. Cruzy is super easy to have around. She has gotten along with everyone we've turned her out with and is in the middle of the pecking order. She is currently living with 3 other mares- they have free choice netted grass/alfalfa mix hay at night and go out on pasture for approximately 8-12 hours during the day. She will stand straight tied politely & also stands nicely in the cross ties & for baths. She is easy to groom and tack up- doesn't love someone that is super aggressive with the curry but just makes faces. She's great for the farrier but a little anxious about needles. We have her in front shoes but the previous owner had her shod all the way around as her turnout was pretty rocky. One of my older students took her to Ames for the semester and she got along well there. Emma also took her to a show where she was stalled overnight with no problems. She is easy to load and haul- a new to her trailer might take about 60 seconds of thinking and then she hops right in. Unloads politely as well.. Cruzy isn't rude/on top of you looking for attention but she enjoys being loved on and loves a good treat. She has great ground manners & a stellar personality! Cruzy is a super fun ride. She has a great forward walk-trot-canter and has really been working on relaxing and stretching down- she does 'snorkel' occasionally. She can get a little sticky about going forward once she's had a break and thinks she is done. Can see both snorkel & sticky in videos below! She will jump anything but we've been focusing on lower jumps mostly because of rider and Cruzy's fitness. She hacks out on the trails & she is looky but she isn’t spooky. She is a mare & has opinions but doesn't get nasty. She is currently being ridden by a 14 yr old student on the weekends & my other instructors if they have time. She is priced for a quick, uncomplicated sale. With my health unfortunately everyone is having to pick up the slack for me and I feel it isn’t fair to them or to Cruzy to keep hanging on to her. I believe she really has the potential to go far! I am negotiable to the right home. She is UTD on all cares including coggins.
