Benjamin Longbottom is a handsome 5‑year‑old Morgan × Haflinger cross gelding. His entire history—from birth to training—is known, as he was professionally started by me several years ago and later became one of my client’s horses.
Training & Ability:
Benjamin is green under saddle and currently walks, trots, and canters. He understands the beginnings of lateral work and has a solid foundation from his professional start. He has been out of consistent work for a little while, so he will benefit from someone ready to bring him back into a regular program. He is currently in training with me for a bit to improve his riding before his next home.
While he will work in the arena, we feel Benjamin would prefer an owner who would like to spend more time on the trails.
Temperament & Suitability:
Benjamin is not suitable for a beginner rider. Like many Haflingers, he is intelligent and can have opinions. Does best with a confident leader, otherwise he may become sticky about moving forward or test his rider. He does best with an experienced, confident rider who can provide clear, consistent direction without force.
Highlights & Handling
● Sweet, affectionate gelding who loves attention
● Good with fly spray, baths, tacking and clipping
● Has been turned out with both mares and geldings
● Can be stalled, though we prefer 24/7 turnout with shelter
● Ties (single or cross‑tie) and stands tied to the trailer
● Good with traffic, dogs, farm equipment, and large trucks
● Has been to a handful of horse shows
● Started in liberty work—he loves it and will happily pick his rider up from the mounting block
● Good for vet and dentist
● Up‑to‑date on vaccines; current coggins
● Medical records available to serious buyers (bloodwork, X‑rays, etc.)
● 2026 Lyme test: negative
● 2026 insulin levels: normal (currently on pasture)
Work in Progress
● Loads best in open stock or slant trailers; but can be hesitant with other trailer types. Will loads with patient, confident handling
● Can be a bit challenging for the farrier, though nothing that consistent handling and regular work won’t improve. Benjamin prefers front shoes due to thin soles.
Ideal Owner:
● Enjoy trail riding adventures and fun liberty training
● Have experience with young, green horses
● Lifelong home—not purchasing him as a resale project
● Continue his education while respecting his individual needs
● Permanent home vs frequently moving between boarding facilities
Benjamin is currently available for viewing in Randolph Vermont. His price is set fairly in the four figures. Finding the right home is far more important than finding the first home. Veterinary and farrier references will be required.
