Rita is a sweet, 17-year-old Thoroughbred mare with a remarkable rescue story. She was one of 16 horses left in a field in Humboldt County after their owners passed away. The horses had received little to no training and were severely underweight when they were rescued. I have owned Rita for the past three years and have worked to build her confidence and trust. She leads well, has decent ground manners and loads into a trailer. She is especially fun to work with at liberty and forms a strong, loyal connection with her person. Rita has been started under saddle but has a long way to go to actually be ridable. She will need an experienced, patient owner who has the time and knowledge to continue her training at her pace. She is good about having her front feet handled, although picking up her hind feet is still a work in progress. Her teeth were recently floated, and she is an easy keeper. Rita is naturally quiet, thoughtful and incredibly loyal. I simply do not have the time to give her the consistent attention and training she deserves. Finding her a safe, knowledgeable and loving home is my highest priority. Serious inquiries from experienced horse owners are welcome. A wonderful home is a must.
