We bought Snickers as a step-up horse for our son last fall. He is entering middle school this year with multiple interests other than horses and has decided to sell.
Snickers experienced intermittent mild lameness this spring/summer. We did 30 days of doxy as he was slightly positive for lymes/anaplasmosis, even though he did not have an active infection. We also put shoes on him as he is thinned soled and we have rocky terrain. Did well barefoot over the off season. As I started riding him consistently at a w/t/l he started showing signs of a sore right stifle. He also struggled with his right lead.
I’m guessing he has UFP or a “locking stifle”. It has never stayed locked and seems to be a mild case. He needs a home that will give him a consistent walk/trot exercise routine with straight lines, hills and cavaletti poles. I started him on equioxx and he has been doing well with walk/trot rides. He is good natured and rides around on a loose neck rein. Stop, back, leg cues, collect. We were told he had 60 days of barrel training at some point and was primarily used as a trail horse just around the previous owner’s property. He will go down the trail independently, without hesitation, even with my gelding calling out to him and doing hot laps. He does seem nervous when alone on the trail but has never offered anything naughty or dangerous. The pull out and go type, same horse even with long periods of time off. Greets you at the gate.
He has allergies that are well controlled with 10 tabs of Zyrtec daily. I buy the off brand from amazon with 365 pills (a little over a month supply) for 10$. Needs small squares or pasture. He has an occasional cough and some clear/white nasal drainage at times but has never had any respiratory distress or stamina issues.
The first part of the sale video through trailering clips were taken 8/17/26 after a month of sitting, with no groundwork or lunging prior. He was also in a new place and hauled alone. The clips after trailering were from this winter/spring of our son, when he was still interested in being a cowboy instead of an NBA star.
