When Frieda was sold to me at auction, it was said to she is a 6 yr old who had been ridden out on trails, crossed water bridges-you name it. She supposedly completed 60 days training recently and has all fours shod. It was also mentioned that she occasionally sucked wind. I got on her the day after purchasing her and will acknowledge she should have been given more time. She tacked up and lunged out perfectly, stood great while I stepped on... She did everything awesome initially. All I can figure is one of two things.... I should have lunged her after tightening the cinch cause she may have been pinched. Or, she did not like that I was bent on her to get my right foot in the stirrup using my hand. It was in those couple seconds she took off bucking and I came off. I've not gotten on her again yet. I've just been doing groundwork and getting weight built on her. She seems like she's gotten less tense and has has a real sweet disposition. She does not wind suck, she is actually a cribber. I've started her on GutX to target any possible problems that might encourage this behavior. If you can find a grain she'll eat with it mixed it, that'd be great. Cause I've tried alfalfa pellets, purina maintenance, and all stock.... I've been syringing it to her with some molasses mixed in because she thinks plain grain is a trap now. She has slowed this behavior significantly and the muscle in her neck from doing so has started to soften and go away. Here's the deal... I have an old mare (Queen) that I retired and an almost 4 year old gelding (Dango.) I got Frieda to have something that could for trails/camping while getting Dango going. I did not intend to get a horse that's this much of a project. She takes more time away from what I need to be putting into Dango. I'm more concerned at placing her in an appropriate home than I am about money.
