Kahlua is an 8 year old Rocky Mountain Cross mare (unsure what she's crossed with), sticks 14.3h and very large bodied. This is a lovely, gentle, extremely sweet, and kind mare that will only go to the best home. Kahlua is sorta gaited - she can do a smooth Rocky Mountain gait in between her walk and trot, but also has a nice true trot if sent forward. Kahlua's canter is a bit awkward - she can do it, but it is unbalanced and requires a lot of support from the rider, it's just not something that comes naturally to her. Kahlua is looking for an easygoing home where she'll be fussed over (she LOVES being pampered), do ground work (she's done liberty and a ton of ground games), maybe play around in the arena or take lower level lessons but nothing too demanding, and go for nice pleasant trail rides. In the arena, she is the same horse whether you ride her 4 times a week or 4 times a month. On the trail, she does better if she's getting out regularly. Kahlua is extremely safe in the arena - I would feel comfortable sticking someone on her who's never ridden and setting them loose at the walk - she will keep them safe. She's not going to pick up speed, not going to spook, not going to take off. She's a great teacher at the walk, she's very safe and tuned in to her rider. She's a good girl at the trot as well, but naturally just has a very big step, so she's more suited to an advanced beginner or intermediate rider for more than walking. On the trail, Kahlua has a lot of promise. She's quiet and straightforward if she's familiar with where you're riding (calm, long rein, relaxed, etc). She's more confident with a group, but also can ride out alone with a confident rider. She's extremely sure footed. She can lead or follow, but does have a naturally very big ground covering walk, so is often faster than horses much larger than her. However, she still needs more experience with new things/places, and at the moment would really do best with a confident & experienced rider to guide her in moments when she's feeling insecure. She has the brain, she just needs more miles under her belt to gain confidence in different situations. She has been on overnight clinics and camping trips and has handled that really well. I was told by her previous home that she is broke to drive, but I don't know the first thing about driving so I can't speak to that. Kahlua ties great, is great for the farrier, loads and travels well, is not marish, has no health concerns, has excellent ground manners, is an easy keeper, and is up to date on everything. She's currently wearing front shoes, she could go barefoot with decent footing. She is currently stalled at night and goes out during the day in a mixed herd - she could fit in with any group, she's in the middle of the pecking order and stays out of trouble.
