“NINA” KIGER MUSTANG MARE Can’t decide between a dog and a horse? Get both! Nina loves showing her affection with puppy kisses whenever she can, and is a favorite of all the horses, humans, and other creatures who come through the barn. She is an adorable dun Kiger mustang with prominent primitive markings, and both her parents are registered with the Kiger Mesteño Association. Fun size at around 14.1 hands, her height is perfect for sliding easily on and off, and nobody can deny the overall “cuteness” factor Nina has. Nina may have celebrated her 20th birthday, but she is not ready to go to pasture! While an occasional chiropractic visit might not be a bad idea, I had her adjusted when I first got her two years ago, and she has held up very comfortably. She is also barefoot, and I believe has been her entire life, with no issues. Saddle fitting may require testing out a couple saddle+pad combinations to allow for her slight downhill build and low withers, but she’s not impossible to fit. Nina doesn’t need the saddle though, she is happy bareback as well. Her western pleasure style jog is very comfortable to ride sitting or posting and she responds to leg, seat, and vocal cues well. She rides in the arena happily but loves long or short trail rides, though preferring to have a friend on trail. With a little more tuning up on trails, she could definitely handle solo trail rides with more confidence. Nina can technically “spook” on occasion, but it only consists of a stop and stare, not a buck, bolt, or scoot. The only thing she has NOT tolerated are horse/deer flies biting her. For the past two years, she has been a lesson horse that the kids and parents love to dote on. Previous to that, she did group trail rides in Washington, but also spent some content time in pasture. If you’d like more information on her earlier life, I can put you in contact with her previous owner. Now, since the lesson program has closed, she is finding herself needing someone or someones to give her the attention she loves and deserves! She would be best suited for strong beginner riders or a complete beginner with experienced help, as it has happened that she can be pushy on the mouth, and this could potentially be discouraging for a young or inexperienced rider. Nina has many more rideable years ahead of her! Many Kigers are fully sound and rideable well into their late 20s. She will only go to a great home where she will get attention and care, and fee negotiable based on an amazing home. PM for a longer arena video and inquiries. Located in Bakersfield, CA.
