“Gus” is a hard-to-find type of horse with a gentle temperament and handsome good looks. He was foaled in Montana, later purchased in 2011 at the Diamond McNabb Ranch Horse Sale in Douglas, Wyoming. Ken McNabb used him in versatility trail course training clinics. In Wyoming, Gus worked cattle and served as a pack horse. Later he was started on barrels and poles but was too laid-back for speed events. In Virginia, he has been trail-ridden for hundreds of miles and shown at local shows in Dressage (Training, First Level), Hunter Under Saddle (wtc), Halter, and Western Pleasure (wj).
Ken McNabb described Gus as a solid, well broke, child’s horse – he would give this horse to youngest son, Trent, when he was small. At McNabb’s ranch, his right hind coronary band was cut on a snow fence. PRP therapy was used, and a scar remains, but Gus has no lameness issues. He has hard round feet, and goes barefoot (currently barefoot) or wears regular shoes.
He is a sturdy all-around riding horse that reflects his top-shelf breeding (Zans Diamond Skipper (sire, reiner) out of Rocas Love Shot (from Sonny Dee Bar). He has a big thick tail (better than pics), a forehead star, and a balanced and muscular conformation. At shows, people ask his breeding because of his close resemblance to Zan Parr Bar.
This horse is well broke, quiet, and has never kicked or nipped. He does not crib and does not have annoying stall habits. He is content in the stall or field, and gets along with our other horses (and the mini donkey). He is content to ride out alone and is fun in the snow and readily crosses creeks or wades into ponds in any kind of weather. He does not require an experienced rider. Gus bathes, loads, clips, and hauls. He has been around dogs, cats, goats, chickens, cows, and much more.
He can stay with us, but daughter finished college and is soon off to job in LA. Gus is strong and ‘healthy as a horse’ and deserves the attention of a new family. A confidence-builder, he also would also make a favorite lesson horse for beginners. Priced to reflect his good mind and versatility. Vet and farrier checks welcome.
