Leroy does everything...and I mean EVERYTHING. He is a high point machine for performance and would be a true dream horse for someone who wants to dabble in a bit of everything. He has points in AQHA Western Pleasure from before I bought him and has been fawned over by every judge to see him while I've owned him.
He does a very nice showmanship pattern. He goes English and can switch over to Western without even thinking about it. He has started some low level jumping and is comfortable up to 2'-2'6". He has recently started flying changes! I've also started working him recently bridleless. He has done lead line with my 3 year old son. He has gone on a few trail rides and been the fearless leader past the terrifying logging equipment. He bathes, clips, trailers nicely, and stands tied indefinitely. He has a very soft mouth and is ridden in a plain hunter D snaffle except at shows for the Western classes when I stick a curb on him. He's well behaved at shows whether hauling in or staying over. The judges just eat him up and the only times we don't win are because of some mistake I have made. He would be an incredible WAHSET horse!
Why is he for sale? I've decided to start competing jumpers again. Leroy is delighted to play around over 2' jumps or hop over logs out on the trail but I do not feel he is as passionate about jumping as I am. I do not think he wants to do the 3'-3'6" hunters like I do. That said, I REALLY love this horse and he's been a huge part of our family for the past 3 years. He is so much fun! I have purchased a new jumper and cannot financially bear the burden of two horses so I need to sell him soon.
He has been 100% sound for the 3 years I have had him in a 5 day/week work program. He does not have any vices.
He is not a beginner's horse. You need to actually ride him and know what you're asking for. A 13 year old has shown shown him very successfully but she's quite a good little rider! My beginner neighbor has ridden him at walk/jog and had a blast but he's probably not a horse to learn to canter/lope on because if he's not collected, it's a big canter/lope.
Here is a video of him doing a little bit of everything. This was all shot in one morning (thanks to my very compliant husband). Please keep in mind that I only fake western so any inadequacies are mine rather than his! He's much more impressive when someone who really knows western performance rides him. https://youtu.be/q5-d3hcyprc
Video from a recent show we were at recently. He showed with me, my friend's daughter (13), and my son (3). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kV0mj4tJMFQ&t=1s
