Even with an Imported sire, Spartan got a late start in life, not beginning his under saddle education until the age of 13, but that has not held him back. This gelding has SOOOO much to offer riders. He has a very extended free walk on long rein, and is schooling 3'3", regularly. but has cleared 3'6"in some of his jumping session. He became our guest horse last year, where we could put anyone on him and go for a trail ride. Spartan is not spooky at ALL! We ride him on the street by himself, away from the house and by a fence with really aggressive barking dogs. Spartan is great with cars. The most important thing Spartan craves about his rider, is that they have a mission and want to go somewhere. When it comes to jumping, Spartan is not rushy whatsoever, he still has the pause before a jump sometimes, so he can gather himself, but he is great at navigating his body up and over. He readily canters up to jumps and the pause becomes obsolete. He is very trustworthy on the cross country course. Spartan is not goosy at all in his sides, we have worked hard not to ride with spurs, because we want him to get lighter to the leg, but he picks up a canter from the walk. He has been to a couple of shows. He swims and loves water.
We slide off Spartans rear end to dismount. He trailers great with other horses, and is at the bottom of the pecking order in a herd, even smaller ponies can be dominant over him. Spartan had his teeth done by an equine dentist when we first got him. Spartan's only vice is that
he doesn't like being tied up to the trailer by himself. He has come a long way, and we still tie him, he doesn't dig holes, but he doesn't stand like a statue. Spartan would be great for an intermediate or novice rider who enjoys cantering and jumping, or just trail riding or parades. Spartan is 1000% sound, he does wear shoes during summer just because there are some rocks where we ride.
