Black grade stock-type gelding. 15-ish hands. His coggins says he is a 2008 model but the vet thinks he could be a little younger. When I purchased him in 2015 I was told that he was registered but that his papers were lost. Ranger is sound, healthy, and up to date on all vet work. He sees the farrier every 6 weeks and has had excellent care. He has good feet but thinner soles on his fronts and so I shoe him during the riding season for trails. Never lame; clean, straight legs. Ranger was broke by Billy Yoder. He was been used extensively for trail riding and ranch-style riding and cow work. He has been to many, many clinics with clinicians including Billy Yoder, Ryan Rose, Doug Jordan (a hall of fame cutter), Jake Bierenbaum and Richard Schouten. He’s been on the flag and on live cattle many times. He will trail ride out alone or in a group in the front or in the back. He will cross water, bridges, and has experience with many obstacles. In past years I’ve competed in ranch versatility with him and he placed in every single class, earning firsts in some and reserve overall at one event. He is quick, responsive, and is definitely a more go than whoa type horse. If you are looking for a pleasure gelding that you can leave sit for 6 months and hop on and go for a trail ride out of the pasture he is not the horse for you. He needs a job, an experienced rider with quiet hands and regular rides and he will do absolutely anything for you. Ranger is very sensitive and knows all his cues—he can shoulder/haunches in/out, yield both hind and forequarters on the ground and under saddle both directions. He side passes, spins both directions, stops on his hind end, rolls back, and will W/T/C with slower and faster speed options, leads, but he is not push button. You have to know how to ride him. You can ride him in a halter, a snaffle, or a shank, with or without contact; direct reins and neck reins. Ranger tries very hard and anticipates, so if you are a rider that has heavy hands or you don’t release to reward he can get hot. But if you are fair, clear, and stay out of his way unless you are asking him for something you can’t beat his work ethic. He is smart, sharp, and gives you 100% all the time every time and will go, go, go all day. He will also stand tied all day and snooze, and will hop right in the trailer every time. Easy to catch, easy keeper, middle of the herd, no special care. 10k OBO.
