Alice had a mini pony that was wonderful, but he couldn't keep up with our big horses. We sold the mini, & bought Tonto for Alice. When we got Tonto home he was very gentle but hadn't been ranch ridden. Alice (6yrs. old ) has been riding him on the ranch for two years, & he has turned into a really nice ranch pony. He drives like a million dollars, & now rides as well as he drives. He is responsive, not dull like a lot of ponies. He has a one hand neck rein, rides alone or in a group, & is happy to lead or follow. Alice's cousins came & visited in Aug. they are 6, 3 1/2 and 2yrs. old, they got along great with him, & they are very inexperienced riders. It was actually surprising how much the 6 and 4 year old progressed riding Tonto the 10 days they were here. The 6 yr old (Charlie) is the one riding him in the video. Tonto was totally tolerant while Charlie was learning to ride. We have enough ponies all three kids could ride together.Tonto crosses the river, bridge, teeter totter, used to a tarp, trots & lopes circles, opens & shuts gates, goes where you point him, works cattle, & will keep up with big horses. Alice says he is smooth for a pony & he has the best walk. Tonto has a good stop. No vices, or bad habits, & no maintenance. He is good about his feet, Alice cleans & rasps his feet a lot. No kick, bite, or buck, & does not run off. This pony is cute, cute, cute & gentle. Tonto has really good feet (not foundered), & can eat green grass in the spring, which is hard to find in ponies. I believe he would do for a first pony with proper parental supervision. Any kid that has ridden at all I believe will get along great with Tonto with minimal supervision. If you believe Tonto is the pony you have driven the wheels off your vehicle trying to find, we encourage you to come meet Tonto & ride him for a few hours or a few days.
