7yr old grade QH for your consideration…. His name was Pistol when we bought him from the Eugene Horse Auction. We call him Gray Pony. He’s 14.3hh. Currently barefoot with no issues on our ground. My farrier says he has excellent feet, and the only time he MAY need shoes is if he will be used a lot or be on a lot of rocky ground. He does pretty well for the farrier. He’s excellent on the front feet, but gets a little nervous on the back. All he does is move away from pressure, nothing dramatic. However, if your farrier is loud & impatient or hard-handed, stop reading bc GP doesn’t deserve that kind of stress. Not sure on vaccination history, but he has been wormed this week. He has a couple of bare spots on his back legs that have been there since we got him in March. He chews on them sometimes even though he is fly sprayed regularly. He also has a couple of marks on his face now from being a horse. Since people like to get picky, I’m trying to lay everything out here. GP is broke, but green. The photos with me in a black hoodie were from the day after we brought him home though. He is a bit stand-offish, but seems to want to be somebody’s friend. He loves belly scratches and finally learned to take treats. He is excellent with my old boy, who is a bit crippled. He doesn’t try to push him around, and actually protects him from other horses. GP needs consistency that I cannot give. He has been sitting since late July because I blew my ACL. He’s a sensitive horse, which is also a bit out of my league. He seems to move around leg pressure when riding & does fine with a snaffle. Haven’t experimented much with him. He’s touchy to mount, from lack of experience it seems. He has never offered to kick, bite, or even buck. He just lacks confidence. The times where I did mess with him consistently, you could see a change pretty much immediately. He even gets more friendly when he has consistency. The auction listing stated that he was used to push cows at an auction yard. He loooooooves cows! He’s fine being pastured next to them or in with them. Not a mean bone in his body. Our dogs are dumb & constantly running between his legs. Sometimes it surprises him, but he doesn’t strike. Chickens kind of fascinate him. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Located outside of The Dalles, OR. Thank you.
