John is looking for a new trail riding home! I've had him about a year. A friend bought him out of a bad situation last spring and asked for help rehoming him. I put weight on him and have been riding him off and on since then. I don't have much history on him but I'm happy to share what I know now. John rides best outside. Neck reins. We've hauled him places to trail ride. He'll cross water and over logs with no arguments. Fine with traffic on the road. He'll ride away from home in a group and solo. He's a little slower riding off solo but he won't fight about it. He's not generally spooky. If something does startle him, he jumps in place. I've had multiple friends ride him for trails and they got along great. He rides okay in the arena but he's more stiff moving on a circle. My vet checked him out and thinks he may have weak stifles. We injected him last fall so we could start riding more consistently in the arena over the winter to build up strength. He may need injected yearly or not at all if he's being rode mostly outside. Circles are hard on stifles. John doesn't need rode everyday. I usually lunge him a few circles before getting on if its been a couple of weeks. His biggest flaw is he can be head shy. When he first arrived, he was super worried about his head. I had his teeth done (they were in really rough shape) and that helped a lot. He'll need yearly dentals for sure. He has good teeth, just need the back ones kept up on. Vet put him at 15/16 last year so he's in that 16/17 range. He's pretty good with his head now unless you come at him too fast. Just needs a quiet hand and a kind person to keep working on it. He rides very quiet but he's a little more worried on the ground. He's been in groups of geldings. He is dominant in the herd. I have not had him with mares but he shares a fence line with them. He's playful. I currently have him alfalfa/grass hay and no grain. He's holding his weight well. https://youtu.be/YdAWfUQhy78?feature=shared
