OBSIDIAN or Obi as he’s known around the barn, is a stunning 6 year old Friesian Sport Horse registered gelding. He stands 17.1 hh, (for reference, the palomino next to him in the photo is 14.1) weighs 1400lbs wears a size 4 shoe and is UTD on shots, worming and teeth floating. OBSIDIAN comes from a breeding program where action, movement and breed standard were of the utmost importance and he certainly embodies these traits. Obi has been a fixture around the ranch for some time now. He has done all aspects of ranch work and takes everything we throw at him like a pure gentleman. He ties, hauls and bathes like an absolute pro. He is amazing for the farrier as well. Obi meets us at the gate every morning and is incredibly easy to catch. Obi was started in dressage as a three-year-old and since then he has been exposed to all sorts of different obstacles that he has truly handled amazingly. These obstacles have included Elk, deer, antelope, cattle, sheep, ATVs, kids, barnyard fowl, teeter-totters, jumps, dogs and tractors. He is traffic safe and crosses water, bridges and dead fall with no issues. Obi rides quietly alone outside as well. This big man also operates like a perfect machine in the arena where he will elegantly pick up both leads, flying lead changes, side pass, stop and spin just off of yourlegs. He rides english, western and bareback.
The best part about Obi is his kindness and willingness. He is amenable and adaptable to many levels of riders; everything from beginner adults to intermediate small children. He is husband safe! If his rider is vertically challenged, it is no problem: Obi will calmly wait at a mounting block or side up next to a tailgate for mounting ease. If you’d like to have some real fun, take Obi out shooting, fishing or shoot archery off of him! Take him to hunting camp, head or heel a steer, put him in a parade, a photo shoot or carry a flag or just take him on a leisurely and safe ride through the mountains. Obi has been taken to town and shown in the Ranch horse Versatility classes and hes been hauled to and seen the bright lights and hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. He has also been featured in a Corral Boots Fashion Campaign.
Whatever you decide, This horse has the brains and the beauty to truly get you noticed wherever you may go. He is still young enough to take him in ANY direction you want to go and he is pretty enough to get you there in style. Obi has been an absolute dream for us to ride and train; and we would love to visit with you about making Obsidian your new dream horse.
