Meet Hajai, a mustang gelding we rescued from the Mexican slaughterhouse! He came from the Navajo Reservation in Arizona to us here in VT with his only previous interaction with humans being rounded up with a helicopter and then an ignominious gelding at five years old. We got him and I spent the summer working with him; just getting to the point of backing him only to find out that I was unexpectedly pregnant with our third child. Thus, he has not received nearly the amount of attention he deserves. His full name is Hajei Beedahaniih (which is Navajo for “remembering the heart”). He is smart, curious and beautiful. Our 7 year old daughter can brush and lead him and pick out his feet. He is still tentative with people, but never mean - he has never kicked or shown aggression no matter the pressure placed on him. He has a lovely floaty big trot and is brave enough to be a beautiful driving horse. It breaks our hearts to move him as we thought he would be our family horse, but it has become clear that he needs someone with a less chaotic life to focus on him and give him the time and space to trust and grow. Hajai is good with other horses - he has been both with mares and geldings. He is up to date on vaccinations, coggins, worming and feet. He is an excellent keeper - although he likes to play in his water! He has lovely dapples and our daughter is convinced that his pretty white start is an indication that he is secretly a unicorn! We are asking $5,000, but it is very negotiable to the right person.
