Henry. 9 year old Pony Mule gelding. Approx. 12 hands. Henry is a super cute project. We have only owned him since March, but we’ve done a lot with him in a short amount of time. We originally got him to be a little pack animal, but he does not have the personality to want to go slow and follow. He is very adventurous and would excel as a riding mule. He would be awesome on trails, endurance, or cross country jumping! This guy can JUMP! He really enjoys having a human spend time with him and really wants a connection with somebody. We would absolutely be keeping him for a riding mule if he was just a bit taller, but unfortunately he is just too small for us. Henry is not yet broke to ride. I have sat on him approximately five times and my fiancé led Henry around in a halter while I sat on him. He behaved perfectly and didn’t startle, spook, or want to buck. In the short time that we’ve had him Henry has: - learned to stand and be saddled - he’s been ponied many miles behind our other mule through fields and trails (with the saddle on) - He’s had many hours of learning how to stand tied (*this is one thing that he still needs a lot of work on.* He will stand there no problem when you’re next to him brushing him or saddling him, but as soon as you walk away he throws a bit of a fit. He will not hurt himself though.) - He picks up his feet very nicely. We haven’t tried trimming his feet yet. (I think he would behave fine though because he loves getting grooming attention) - He has had a lot of work with desensitizing to tarps, bags, crossing creeks, loud noises, etc. - he has accepted us getting on and off his back both bareback and with a saddle Henry is excellent on the halter and respectful of your space (as long as your spacial boundaries are clear). He is also good with other equine and respectful of electric fencing. It would be beneficial for Henry to go to someone that has experience working with mules or donkeys. He is well behaved most of the time, but does have his “stubborn” mule moments. ***He is not a huge fan of dogs. He is good with my well behaved Boston Terrier, but he will charge and kick at my Australian Shepherd when she’s in his pen (but she did nip at him one day when we weren’t watching her and he has not liked her ever since then. That’s not his fault though). *** We are hoping that Henry can become a best friend and awesome riding mount to an experienced kid or small rider. He is NOT for beginners.
