I'm selling my 17 year old paint gelding. Approximately 15.1 hands. Purchased eight years ago as a family trail horse, and I have been consistently trail riding him with my kids for the last several years. His prior owner did 4-H shows with him and trail rode him all around the state. She said she got him off the Warm Springs reservation. He's levelheaded and easygoing, but he has a good forward walk and plenty of go when you ask for it. He has a nice smooth, easy to sit trot/jog, and he picks up his lead at the canter/lope in both directions. No soundness issues. No laminitis or other health concerns. UTD on shots and wormed this spring. He is an easy keeper, so you do need to have a way to limit his pasture. He is used to being pastured with other horses, and he tends to be the leader of our small herd (of 3). But he's a gentle boss man, and he has no trouble leaving the herd and riding out alone. He is used to riding across water, on roads with cars and bikes, with dogs at his heels, farm equipment, you name it -- it doesn't bother him. He loads, bathes, and stands for the ferrier. He has excellent ground manners, and I have let my kids brush and bathe him since they were about 5 years old. He is willing, alert, and no plug. He would do well with someone that has experience but is mostly looking to do trail rides, or someone that is an advanced beginner but is working with a trainer. He will take advantage of a total beginner (stop and not go, stop and eat grass, that sort of thing). He has a soft mouth, good brakes, and is highly responsive to leg and seat cues. I ride him with a western saddle and split reins (English reins). He doesn't currently neck reign, although he's so responsive to your leg and seat, you could teach him. He has a sweet personality, always first to greet you and appreciates a good neck rub. I'm looking for a good fit and a home that will take good care of him. Send me an email or give me a call (three one O - 598 - eight three 1 8) to discuss. I've got a couple videos of him under saddle and am happy to take some more. I have three kids and a busy job, so I'd kindly ask you, only serious inquiries appreciated.
