Ellie Boyds, MD This is the type of horse, once you sit on her everyone says, “Wow! She’s cool!” My struggle right now has been getting appropriate riders to come try her. So here’s some frank honesty about Ellie. Asking low 5🥕 but open to creative situations including lease to own for the perfect fit. The good: This mare is incredibly sweet, straightforward to ride, and classically dressage trained. Her lateral work is stupid easy. She’s a forward ride but does her most connected work when you can keep your leg on her and keep her supple from the leg. She hacks out nicely and is mostly brave(we had house sprinklers unexpectedly go off on us one time- she wasn’t a fan- which I thought was more than fair). She is a fun ride for a good rider to discover the nuances of dressage. The bad: She diagnostically has kissing spines. It was a happenstantial finding during a routine prepurchase 5 years ago in which the owner wanted back radiographs. She has been successfully able to do the job asked during that time with no issues. Had I not known about the findings, I would never have guessed as she is a workhorse. She is a 16 year old mare, which seems to steer many people away. With age comes wisdom and experience, and she is a great teacher. She will let you fumble a bit while finding the buttons. She’s not a complete dead head and does require some body awareness(she’s seat sensitive and a beginner rider might get frustrated as they learn their own balance). I have found even when in heat, she is not marish- she’s not on Regumate. She does require some maintenance, her current owner has her on monthly Adequan shots and a monthly massage to help feel her best. We have found that Ellie is thriving in a mostly out situation(she lives out with four mares- bottom/middle of the herd) they come in for meals and poor weather. That’s really all the negative about this mare. I think she’s sweet and fun and both her owner and I would love to find her a situation where she is appreciated for those qualities. Here’s her baseline information from a previous ad: 2009 16.1h bay TB dressage mare. SWEET, kind, non marish. Easy to go out with mares and geldings. Excellent amateur mount- straightforward and fun. Consistent and safe in and out of the ring. Trail rides alone or in groups. Professionally trained & owned since 5yrs old. Previous event career up to prelim. The last 5 years has been with an amateur and primarily schooling dressage at home and trail riding. Gifted in dressage; people pleaser; not spooky. EASY lateral work. 2nd Level Schoolmaster, schooling 3rd level with clean changes both directions(could use more of a refresher as she hasn’t been consistently using them.) Recently started jumping again over small courses and xc(water, banks, ditches). 2025 3rd level test 1 61.8 2020 2nd level scores 65.9/67.8 2019 2nd level scores 66.6/70.7 PM for information Text/call 781-244-9955 Email: TMCEventing@gmail.com
