I chose the name Ferdinand in reference to Ferdinand the Bull, whom prefered to smell the flowers under the cork tree rather than fight the other bulls. Nothing could describe this horse better. He is a happy go lucky guy who isn't competitive but is willing to please. Ferdi is a solid build borderline draft. He can easily carry a large rider over rough terrain. I started Ferdi in the winter with learning to long line and ground drive. By late winter we were quietly walking and trotting under saddle around the indoor waiting to head out. in May he was in a weekly clinic handled and ridden by a person he had never met and took it all in stride. From then on most of his mileage has been going out on trails in the woods, along fields and down dirt roads. He has been ridden by a few different riders now from advanced beginners to novice and up. He doesn't have a buck, rear or spin. He would never exert the energy to bolt. Ferdi is lacking ring work but that can always be done. He stands at the mounting block, stumps and what ever needed on the trail to get on. We don't have any water to cross but he's fine with puddles. He has been trailered a couple times. While Ferdi is still young and has a lot to learn he has a great start and the Cleveland Bay temperament. He was bred at Edelweiss Farm in Vermont if you want to know his pedigree. Murphey's law, the day after I posted the add, my friend told me she wants him. Ferdi will be on trial at her farm to see if it's a good fit until the end of September. I will reach out to anyone still interested if he will be for sale then. Thanks everyone!
