Merlot is a powerful combination of a great personality in a willing and extremely athletic horse. He is the first to greet you at the gate and is always wanting to please. Standing 16hh, he has no bolt, buck or rear, this guy is safe and will adjust himself to "catch you" if he feels you are off balance! A pleasure on the ground and a very sensitive and responsive ride, Merlot can somehow sense your level of riding ability and adjust to it. I have had first time riders on him and he takes it nice and slow and takes care of them, but when a more experienced rider gets on, the energy level goes up and he is a fun, forward ride! Just starting over fences under saddle (free jumps 1.1m with ease), Merlot trail rides alone or with friends and has begun some basic dressage training; shoulder-fore, shoulder-in, half-pass, etc. He is barefoot and has not been lame a single day of his life. Very easy keeper and low maintenance, he doesn't have any vices (although he prefers to go out with friends). He can live in or out. Has lived in both Northern and Southern climates. He was started under saddle by me and has continued his training with me for the past 4 years. While I would love to keep him, my client schedule has picked up and he is finding himself on the back burner. This guy deserves the spotlight! https://www.mendenequestrian.com/sale-horses-1/ashlanes-merlot/dutch-harness-horse/show-jumping%2C-dressage%2C-eventing
