Meet Raven, a charming 7 year old BLM Mustang mare. She was born on range in the Goshute herd management area in Nevada in 2018 and was rounded up in 2021. She has been gentled and is looking for a forever home! She is very special horse who will no doubt take her human far. Personality: Raven has a quiet but curious personality. She’s lower in the herd hierarchy and tends to be more of a follower among other horses (she has been with mares/geldings) With people, she’s initially a little reserved, but once she trusts them, she really opens up and is a in your pocket-type pony. She’s incredibly sweet and inquisitive, and she genuinely loves spending time with people. She’ll happily hang out with you while you muck. If you catch her laying down, she'll let you lay down right beside her. She thrives on connection and companionship — she’s the kind of horse who chooses to be near you. She’s also insanely smart and has been trained with an approach that emphasizes emotional safety and communication. Training: She has been trained primarily using positive reinforcement and light negative reinforcement (pressure/release). I have prioritized training that gives her a voice (consent), and allows her to feel safe and heard. I watch for and acknowledge the subtle “no’s. My goal is to support her staying expressive, connected, and engaged — rather than simply compliant or shut down (which I believe she could easily fall into). I would like to find her a home also interested in practicing ethical horse keeping/training methods. Raven has been learning behaviors such as the laydown, pedestal, sidepass, liberty leading, and trailer self-loading. Raven learns very fast — a true genius pony — so it’s important her person understands how to be thoughtful and intentional in what they reinforce. She’s not started under saddle, but I am preparing her body for a potential future under saddle. She has been doing an in-hand program develop healthy, functional muscle in preparation for riding. (See the second to last photo to see how she has been developing) She’s also part of my hands-on learning as I am on the path to become a certified bodyworker. Looking for: Raven is looking for a mature, self aware adult individual who prioritizes the her horse needs (friends, freedom, forage), and values a horse for simply being a horse. She has much to teach an individual who wishes to really seek connection and attunement. She would be great for a laid back home practicing positive reinforcement, or a Warwick Schiller–style approach. If her potential owner wishes to start her under saddle, they must be a small adult under 20% of her bodyweight. Located in Essex, VT (hauling available). I’ll be doing a home visit and checking references. A Mutual fit is important. No resales - she is looking for a forever home.
