For Sale – 2008 AQHA Bay Mare “Chiquita Lone Gun” (Oakley) Oakley is a 2008 AQHA bay mare standing 14.3 hands. She is well-bred, proven, and has an excellent disposition, making her a valuable addition to any riding or breeding program. She is sired by Colonel’s Lone Gun (NRHA earnings over $173,000; producer of high-earning, versatile offspring) and out of She’s a Pop Smoke. Colonel’s Lone Gun is a son of Colonels Smokingun (dual-registered, NRHA Hall of Fame; progeny earnings over $15 million) and grandsire Colonel Freckles, combining some of the most influential reining and cowhorse bloodlines in the breed. Oakley is exceptionally easy to handle. She stands quietly in stocks, on cross ties, and at the trailer, and is calm and cooperative for all veterinary and farrier work. Her heat cycles are obvious, making her straightforward to manage for breeding. She has produced three to four foals and is a gentle, attentive mother, keeping her foals safely to side, demonstrating her natural protectiveness and adaptability. Under saddle, Oakley is well broke and responsive. She has been used for sorting, play days, trail rides, and lessons. While she shines with a rider who knows her buttons, she is calm, trustworthy, and safe enough for a child to enjoy. Oakley had one eye surgically removed (enucleation), and it doesn’t affect her at all, you’d never guess it riding or handling her. She is barefoot, easy to tack, and has a quiet, adaptable mind that makes her enjoyable for riders of all levels. Oakley is sound and an easy keeper. She is up to date on vaccinations and deworming, with AQHA papers ready to transfer. She thrives on pasture or dry lot, gets along well with mares and geldings, is low in the herd hierarchy, and is gentle with fences, blankets, and fly masks. This is a rare opportunity to add a kind, proven, and versatile mare to your program, both as a broodmare and as a well-trained riding horse.
